Apply Now to Use Delta, NCSA’s New Advanced Computing and Data Resource

Jan. 13, 2022 — National Center for Supercomputing Applications is pleased to announce an allocation award opportunity on Delta, NCSA’s new advanced research-computing and data resource that is launching in just a few weeks. Applications are being accepted through January 15 for awards that begin April 1 through XSEDE, the NSF-funded virtual organization that integrates and coordinates the sharing of advanced digital services for the nation’s researchers.

NCSA’s Delta

Delta blends cutting-edge graphics processors (GPUs) and traditional CPU architectures with forward-looking user interfaces and file systems to shape the future of advanced research computing and data-intensive analysis. With over 800 GPUs, Delta is the most performant GPU resource in the NSF portfolio and will greatly expand accelerated workloads across many science domains, especially those adopting AI-based computational methods.

Because Delta is a GPU-accelerated system with access to CPU resources and storage, allocation awards will focus primarily on GPU applications but wouldn’t preclude a CPU-only allocation.

Not ready yet? XSEDE applications are accepted quarterly; the next application period opens March 15. Also watch for the next round of Delta Illinois Allocation Awards later this spring.

If you have any questions, please contact help@xsede.org.

About Delta

NCSA combines next-generation processor architectures and NVIDIA graphics processors with forward-looking user interfaces and file systems to create Delta, a powerful computing and data analysis resource, that is part of the national cyberinfrastructure ecosystem through XSEDE. The project partners with the Science Gateways Community Institute to empower broad communities of researchers to easily access Delta, and with the University of Illinois’ Division of Disability Resources & Educational Services and the School of Information Sciences to explore and reduce barriers to access. Delta is funded through NSF OAC 2005572.

About NCSA

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign provides supercomputing, expertise, and advanced digital resources for the nation’s science enterprise. At NCSA, University of Illinois faculty, staff, students and collaborators from around the globe use these resources to address research challenges for the benefit of science and society. NCSA has been advancing many of the world’s industry giants for over 35 years by bringing industry, researchers and students together to solve grand challenges at rapid speed and scale.
